Half the Year Gone. Is Your Exhibition Strategy Working as Hard as Your Spend?
Mid-year is the perfect time to step back and assess whether your exhibition strategy is creating the conversations, opportunities and commercial value you planned for. Before thinking about next year’s calendar, ask whether you’re getting everything you should from the events you’re already attending.
Many organisations invest heavily in exhibitions but never stop to measure whether they’re achieving the outcomes they set out to deliver.
Now may be the time to ask an honest question about your exhibition programme.
Not ‘did we attend the right events’ – that’s a question for next year’s calendar. But ‘are we getting what we should be getting from the events we’re in?’
The gap between what companies spend on exhibition presence and what they actually get back is one of the more persistent problems in B2B marketing. Stand space, build costs, staff time, travel, hotels – the total investment is significant. The results, too often, aren’t.
Four Ways to Strengthen your Exhibition Strategy
- Define success before the event.
- Give your stand a clear proposition.
- Brief your team on more than logistics.
- Create conversations beyond the stand.
What we’ve observed from being on a lot of floors in the first half of this year: the companies generating real value from exhibitions are doing a small number of things differently:
💡 They’ve defined what success looks like before the event, not after.
💡 Their stand has a clear proposition – not a brand statement, but a reason for a specific person to stop.
💡 Their team is briefed on more than logistics.
💡 And they’ve built something around the stand – a side event, a hosted lunch, a roundtable – that creates the conversations the floor itself rarely generates.
The companies not getting the return are usually doing the opposite of all of that.
Good production, unclear purpose.
Q3 and Q4 are the busiest exhibition months of the year. If you have events coming up – Data, Tech, Fintech, Retail, Marketing – now is the right time to think about whether your current approach is set up to deliver.
We help companies improve exhibition strategy by getting more from the events they’re already investing in.
